World’s Best Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

  • May 22, 2017

I am excited to share the BEST Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe!!!!

My husband loves chocolate chip cookies and when we were first married I tried out so many recipes and they all fell short. Too flat, too bready, etc. My mom had a great recipe from when I was growing up, but it used Crisco (nope, not doing it). So when I tried these cookies (link to her recipe) at a friend’s house I knew I had finally tasted what I was looking for — THE PERFECT SALTED CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE.  What is a perfect chocolate chip cookie you ask? Well let me describe it for you in detail. These cookies are dense, doughy, packed with melty chocolatey goodness, and the perfect balance of salt and sweet. The secret? Great quality ingredients and maldon salt for sprinkling on top.

The recipe: (Note you can also half this recipe)

2 Sticks of Butter (8 oz)  – TIP: If you use KerryGold your mouth will thank you. I get mine from Costco.

1/2 C white sugar

1 and 3/4 C Light Brown Sugar (or use a darker if you prefer a more molasses flavor)

2 Eggs

2 Tsp Vanilla

3 and 1/2 C All Purpose Flour

1 1/2 Tsp Baking Soda

3/4 Tsp Salt (or you can skip this if you are using salted KerryGold butter)

1 lb. Chocolate chips (milk, semi-sweet – any kind you like!)

Maldon Salt for sprinkling on top. You can get Maldon Salt which is a flaky sea salt, at many supermarkets or just order it from Amazon. Maldon Sea Salt Flakes, 8.5 ounce Box)

Preheat oven to 360 degrees

Step 1. Cream butter and sugars well until light and fluffy. Scape down the sides of the mixer. Keep mixing on low, add the eggs and then the vanilla.

Step 2. Slowing with mixer on low, add the dry ingredients – the flour, soda and salt (if you are not using salted butter) – DON’T OVERMIX

Step 3. Add in the chocolate for a few seconds until just combined.

Step 4. (optional step but makes the cookies more doughy and undercooked style vs. bready) Refrigerate the dough for an hour. Then take it out and form into rounds on a sheet pan.

Step 5. Finally, using Maldon Sea Salt (or other high quality sea salt) sprinkle on the cookie before baking

Step 6. Bake at 360 for 11 minutes for a slightly underdone gooey cookie. Do 12 if you prefer a more well done cookie.

Step 7. Enjoy, let your senses dance, and unicorns leap because you have found the perfect salted chocolate chip cookie recipe!
