As 2018 is well underway I’ve been thinking about my travel dreams for this year. In April when I started this blog I posted my first Top 10 Bucket List for the year. I’m happy to say that we visited a lot of the places on that list. I spent time in Chicago and got to do a once-in-a-lifetime meal at Alinea, we did a 10 year anniversary trip to Cabo, we road tripped to Santa Cruz, CA and camped in Lake Tahoe, we took the Underground through London (which wasn’t on my list but was awesome), and we ziplined through Costa Rica. I truly believe that putting together a goal list helps to plan ahead and make trips and experiences happen. So in that spirit, looking ahead for 2018 – here are my top 10 spots that I want to visit.
Sedona is still on my list and has been for years! The gorgeous red rocks, hiking and biking make it a fun location for the whole family.
We have heard such great things about Sayulita and we are very excited about going there this spring. We’re doing a home exchange
Pacific Coast Road Trip (includes stops in Mendocino, Portland, Oregon, Seattle, potentially Vancouver)
I have always wanted to drive all the way up the Pacific Coast to Vancouver. I doubt we will get that far this year, but I am really hoping to get at least to Portland, Oregon making stops along the way.
Joshua Tree National Park (California)
Joshua Tree is definitely on my to-see list this year. We live about three hours away from this National Park. In general desert landscapes are not my favorite, but I’ve heard the sunrises and sunsets and the stars at night are just magical here.
Its likely I’m headed back to London this fall for work. Last year we did a day trip out to Oxford and loved it. This time, I would like to visit the other major university town of Cambridge. I’m told it has many charming and historical pubs and sights.
For a long time, Ireland wasn’t really on my travel bucket list. I’m not sure why. Recently, however through photos and enthusiastic recommendations from some friends I am really hoping to get to Ireland this year as an add-on trip to my work trip to London. What should I see? Where should I go with just a few days to travel? One thing that is attractive about Ireland is how relatively small the island is which means, hopefully we could see more of it.
Sequoia National Park (California)
Yosemite’s spectacular neighbor national park, Sequoia is definitely on my bucket list this year. We want to camp, hike and explore the big trees.
Local San Diego spots (Julian, local hikes etc.)
San Diego has SO many amazing places to visit. We don’t do nearly enough here. This year I want to explore more of this beautiful city and its surroundings.
Paso Robles, California
A girls weekend in Paso two years ago sparked a love affair (and a wine club subscription to a local winery) with Paso Robles. I did a full post on it shortly after starting the blog which you can read here (Paso Robles Itinerary). I want to spend more time in Paso this year tasting wine, going for runs and hikes and spending time with my family.
Last but not least I want to camp in Idyllwild. Just a few hours from San Diego, so many people have recommended Idyllwild, CA as a fantastic mountain getaway, with camping, a cute town and lots of hiking.
So, what’s on your bucket list this year??
