A Travel Blogger…without Travel

  • May 11, 2020

Man, its been a long two months! Overall, we have adapted fairly well to the COVID-19 restrictions. The kids are on their iPads zooming away, Dave and I are working from home. We’re cooking a lot, reading, crafting and other things to pass the time at home. Now that our beaches have opened up a bit that is a new option. Still, its been painful to cancel summer plans that we looked forward to and the uncertainty of how travel will look moving forward once things open up again. But, we press on. I’m curious what other people have been doing to pass the time…

Activities during COVID-19 that we doing to stay sane and have fun:

Crafting – I pulled out my sewing machine and made masks for the family — Easton and I have been having a lot of fun making headbands. I ordered some cheap plastic headbands from Amazon and we have been making Knot, twist and flat fabric headbands. Some of these are easy no sew – you just need a glue gun, fabric and headband. Here are some links to a DIY knotted headband, there is no tutorial for this but I found inspiration for a cute pattern on Etsy. I even saw some that use old men’s ties.

Cooking – LOTS OF COOKING. LOTS OF DISHES – can I get an AMEN? Have you ever run your dishwasher this much?? After a month and a half of home cooked meals I decided to up my cooking fun and I’m doing a 30 day Cookbook Challenge. Every day I pick a new recipe from one of my many, many cookbooks. I’m on day five – its been super fun going through old cookbooks that I forgot about and pulling out new and loved recipes to try out. If you don’t follow me on Instagram – here’s a link – you can follow along the Cookbook Challenge, or start your own and tag it #30daycookbookchallenge

Wine Club – As wineries can’t do standard tastings, lots of them are having great club deals – low cost shipping and great discounts. I have wine clubs with Zinke (Los Olivos, CA) and Penman Springs (Paso Robles, CA) — and they have excellent wines at great prices.

Supporting Farms, Coffee and Ice Cream – We have been ordering coffee from a local roaster for delivery (SO GOOD) – and our favorite family run ice cream place has been doing pints for takeout. We have also been getting a weekly CSA fruit and veggie box delivered, which I love!

Walks, Hikes and Exercise – Getting outside is key – we have done a ton of hikes around our house and nearby. Now that the beaches are opening up – I’m hoping to do more beach walks.

Reading – The kids have been reading like crazy — primarily through the Libby App — probably the best thing ever. You can check out online books through your local library subscription.

What are you doing during this time to stay sane, and have fun?
